It is becoming more apparent that Google Apps is trying to be on the road to replacing Microsoft Office. Is it even close?

Without a doubt businesses both small and large benefit from the on-going battle.
Is it time to do away with Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Office? Not yet. While Gmail can easily take care of an organizations email needs, sharing contacts across an organization requires making use of the Google Contacts APIs. Having to become a programer in order share contacts across a business isn’t something that most businesses want to get into. Very un-Google to make a basic business need complicated.
Hard-core Microsoft Office users will not be happy with Google Docs. The fact that you can’t work off-line in the latest versions will be a problem to many.
However, casual users of Microsoft Office should be more than content using Google Docs.
As Microsoft Office on-line rolls out I’m certain the battle will heat up even more. It’s going to be interesting how this plays out.
